School Summary
Thomas, Christie, and Harrington Elementary all feed into Carpenter Middle School. Despite an upward trajectory, Carpenter has consistently performed well below PISD averages for the past four years. Together with Armstrong Middle School, Carpenter was ranked last amongst PISD middle schools. In 2018-’19, nearly 1 in 4 (24%) STAAR test scores failed to even approach the state standard, a number that was an improvement from ‘16-17 (25%) and ‘15-16 (31%). Less than half (44%) of the STAAR scores met the the state standards in 2018-19, and only 19% of STAAR scores showed mastery of the content. Carpenter is one of the smallest PISD middle schools, with less than 225 students per grade. The mobility rate is within the average range for PISD middle schools, but the percentage of economically disadvantaged students is quite high relative to PISD averages.
