School Summary
Plano Academy High School, a STEAM-focused high school, opened its doors in 2013. The school selects students from throughout Plano, and, unlike the rest of Plano ISD, it is a full 4-year high school. Plano Academy had a total of 438 students in 2018-19, averaging less than 110 student per grade. Plano ISD’s Senior Highs, for comparison, averaged over 1,300 students per grade. Plano Academy is committed to being deeply interdisciplinary and project-based, and it attracts some of Plano’s top students. Students who are self-starters and self-directed learners do best at Plano Academy, where there is significantly less structure than in traditional high schools. Set inside a converted office building, the campus feels more like a modern work space than a typical school. While the academics are incredibly strong and connected to “real-world” projects, Plano Academy does not offer much in the way of athletics or performing arts.
